Fibromyalgia and Asian Bodywork Therapy Study

HandsIf you have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia you are invited to participate in a national study to research the benefits of Asian bodywork therapy (ABT) on individuals with fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia, a debilitating chronic pain condition, is often difficult to treat with Western therapeutic measures. Asian bodywork therapy addresses the patient with the understandings of Chinese medicine and the comforting support of touch. For many fibromyalgia patients, Asian bodywork therapy is their first opportunity to feel touch therapy that is relaxing and non-invasive.

Your participation in the fibromyalgia and ABT outcome study will help us reach our goal of documenting the treatment of individuals with fibromyalgia for the purpose of establishing large-scale research on the health benefits of Asian bodywork therapies for people suffering from fibromyalgia and related conditions.

The research tools, methods, and publication support for this study have been provided by scientists at the Northwestern University School of Medicine, Chicago, IL. This study is the first of its kind to involve the participation of individuals and educational institutions nationwide, through the research committee of the American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia®.

The study consists of pre and post health questionnaires and a series of six Zen shiatsu Asian bodywork therapy treatments. The treatments are approximately one hour long, once every two weeks, for a period of twelve weeks. The fee for participation is $510.
